2014 Polaris RZR XP 4 1000 – A First Look

Just 3 months after revealing the most powerful UTV yet (the RZR XP 1000) Polaris raised the bar yet again with the release of the 2014 Polaris RZR XP 4 1000 – the ultimate outdoor machine for four. Like the 2-seater version, the 4-seater, RZR XP 4 1000 boasts a 4-Stroke DOHC Twin Cylinder, 107 horsepower ProStar™ engine with an impressive 999 cc of displacement.

"RZR has defined the recreational side-by-side market, outselling the competition five to one, and owning a RZR has become a lifestyle allowing for social adventure," said Craig Scanlon, general manager for the Off-Road Vehicle Division at Polaris. "Our four-seat RZRs provide off-road enthusiasts the ability to share that lifestyle with more of their family and friends, and the new RZR XP 4 1000 is the ultimate in outdoor adventure for four."

Polaris continues to aggressively bring new vehicles and innovations to the market. Just last year the RZR XP 4 900 was awarded Best UTV of 2012 among other things. The RZR XP 4 1000 has more power, more suspension and even better comfort.

The RZR XP 4 is the ultimate multi-passenger side-by-side, equipped with the same combination of power and agility features as the RZR XP 1000 with the addition of the most advanced suspension for performance and family cruising, and additional cabin comforts. The combination provides one of the smoothest high-performance rides available in a side-by-side today.

Power

Like the RZR XP 1000, the RZR XP 4 1000's engine is built specifically for an extreme-power side-by-side with unmatched torque across the RPM range to easily carry 4 people under any riding conditions. The 107 horsepower ProStar™ Twin EFI engine features Dual Overhead Cams (DOHC) with 4 valves per cylinder and dual throttle bodies making it the fastest accelerating 4-seater on the market. There's no need for premium fuel either since the RZR XP 4 1000 runs on 87 octane fuel. The redesigned combustion chamber helps to ensure an efficient fuel burn and the optimized water and air flow around the cylinder head promotes maximum cooling to support all types of riding conditions.

Suspension

Enjoy a longer wheelbase (117" vs. 90") and a smoother ride. The RZR XP 4 1000 has an advanced suspension system. Combine that with the long body and you have a machine capable of both performance driving and family cruising. You'll get the most control and the smoothest ride with a full 16" of travel in the front and 18" in the rear with 13.5" total ground clearance. Both the front and back are equipped with Walker Evans Anti-Bottoming Needle Shocks. The 16-position shock adjustors make it easy to dial in and maintain the perfect, smooth and controlled ride whether you carry 1 passenger or 3.

Agility

The new High Performance, on-demand AWD system seamlessly engages both front wheels with full torque to pull the vehicle over those washboards and whoops and maintain the line all the way through those tight corners. The chassis is built of an all-new tubular design for better handling and 20% less flex. This helps keep the tires planted and provides an ultra-responsive feel, not to mention a lower center of gravity and custom-looking profile that is 3.5" lower than the RZR 4 900 model. The rear seating is flat and in line with the front row. By keeping the weight of the passengers low in the chassis, you have a more agile ride with much better steering precision and better safety for all.

Comfort

We wouldn't expect Polaris to skimp on any of the details. The RZR XP 4 1000 comes with an all-new front cabin including a new cabin interior. The steering wheel is a new high-performance wheel with 10" of tilt adjustability. The new center storage box has a cell phone holder and larger glove box area. Both the driver and all 4 passengers have footrests and cup holders. LED lights illuminate the front and rear seating areas and the rear passengers will enjoy an added 1" of leg room. If that's not enough, both front seats are on sliders. All seats are equipped with added bolstering and the new Dryseat technology to resist moisture.

The front passenger has an extra-wide grip bar while the rear passengers will enjoy a full-width handhold bar. Passengers will also have an easier time of entering and exiting the vehicle with the factory installed quarter doors and their secure latch, one-handed operation. Polaris has thought of everything.

We are excited to see the 2014 RZR XP 4 1000 hit the dunes and trails this fall. What will you be riding?
